So after like owning my u2412m for like 6 months it started to flicker on and off and i was worried it was dying. It comes and goes right? I thought i was going to have to send it in because it was driving me nuts! But i found out it is supposed to do it. I wonder if the flicker causes me issues besides being annoying. Has anyone else noticed the flicker in LCD screens? I do think my u2412m is worse than others because i haven't noticed it in my dads or my spare one but i mainly look at this one.

I haven't noticed this on my U2412M, and I've had it for over two years. Are you sure it's supposed to be noticeable?

Skimming the article, I see it mentions this is the same basic thing that some flourescent light bulbs exhibit. I have seem flourescent light bulbs with flickering issues, although if it were enough of an issue in a lightbulb that I owned that I noticed it, I'd probably replace the bulb.

it depends on the person. I assume what i am seeing is this. To me it seems more like a refresh down my screen at times...like a wave of an ocean going up and down. Maybe it is something else but it annoys me.

EDIT: well it is a combination. There is like a wave refresh on my screen at times and it also flucuates in brightness and it bugs me a lot but it comes and goes. Sometimes it is really bad and other times not present. Not sure if it is the monitor or my eyes or both that makes it come and go

it might be both bad monitor and the PVM. :/ Will say this monitor has way better colors than my second u2412m. The other one is sooooooo damn yellow. Looks like crap comparatively. calibration is a joke from what i found out. I need a screen with a built in LUT for it to even matter :'(

It's not supposed to do that, it is faulty, if it were me I would get it fixed/replaced if it's under warranty.

It didn't flicker for 6 months and then it started doing it one day, yet you think it is supposed to? It isn't. It is a CCFL based backlight, right? Faulty bulb or inverter for sure.

i very well may have never noticed it. My wife has used it for almost 2 years and has never seen it. I tried to point it out to her but she can't see it, which is why i thought it was the flicker threshold thing.

    1. If you're one of the lucky few whose eyes are good enough to notice flickering on monitors, then it would have been immediately obvious the very first time you turned it on. If anything, after 6 months of usage your eyes should've gotten so used to the flickering to the point where you don't even notice it anymore.
    2. Dell won't "just send it back" - they physically can't. The basic Ultrasharp warranty comes with express cross shipping.

Like everyone has said, your monitor is malfunctioning, plain and simple.
