So, I am currently in the process of staking out an older M17x R2, and found one locally for $250. Was able to talk the guy down to $225, unfortunately it has the i5 520M, so any usuability is basically thrown out the window aside from simple web browsing. I plan to upgrade that to a 920XM, but that is basically irrelevant to the topic. What I meant to say is, I am in possession of a GTX 765M and the system it came in, and for the fun of it, am going to swap the cards and see if they even post in another. I don't expect them too, and its kind of a pointless upgrade either way. If it doesn't work, I'm set on buying a Firepro M6100 from ebay, shoving that, an i7 + an SSD, and giving it to my brother as a gift. As for the HD 5870M, it will be going in my friend's machine as soon as I source out a crossfire cable and a better charger (and maybe the heatsink)Welp, its going to be an interesting adventure, and I will hopefully be updating this post as soon as possible, I meet with the guy on Tuesday

I think the 765M works in the R2 as I have seen some benchmarks of it running, but its the only 700 series GPU which will work (i think). @Raidriar might know for sure
