Don't these HD Tune results look pretty sketchy to you guys?

It's an HP dv7-1245dx laptop, 5400 RPM 320GB drive. I've had the computer for about a year, and it started freezing up recently- I'm suspecting it's hardware related.

That access time is a little ridiculous...did you check your SMART data?

also, what kind of AV and/or other software is running on your machine.

HDTune 'tests' your machine as it is. It is unable to disable or shutdown other software that may be running and messing with disk i/o.

Try running it again after booting into safe mode and save the results along with the SMART disk diag data.

SMART data all says OK through HD Tune. I ran a full disk scan and it came up ok too.

I had shut down AV and anything else I could see might interfere. I wasn't in safe mode though, I'll give that a shot.

My BIOS has been idiot-proofed by HP so it doesn't appear I can see and/or change any HDD related settings in it.

I didn't see any indication of PATA mode in the driver settings.

I am running windows vista home premium 64 bit.

I rebooted into Safe Mode and running there I get quite a normal HD Tune curve for the perf test. So I think that's enough of an answer for me, it's probably not the drive itself but some other crappy software/driver installed. If I keep having problems I might resort to a vista re-install, or maybe a windows 7 upgrade...

you have a SATA drive so running in PATA mode is a no go... anyways , the burst rate is ridiculous and so is the access time.. u need to use a defragger like SmartDefrag to reduce defraging... also use CC cleaner to remove all the other stuff...really ur drive should do better than mine... safest bet is do to clean install...
