is there a major difference between having an hd in one setup or the other?

    which would be cheaper?

and on a sidenote.....why are 2.5" mobile hds so much more expensive then its bigger brothers??? is it b/c the smaller drive is harder to manufacture?

The major difference is if you buy a package from a big brand (i.e. Buffalo DriveStation or Western Digital My Book), normally it comes with their own power management software. On the other hand, if you buy your own HDD and enclosure separately yourself, you will not get those PM software, but this method you get to choose your own brand of HDD and is normally cheaper, although not by much. Personally, I prefer the packages from big brands because of the PM software and overall build quality.
