This question has probably been addressed many times, but I didn't see any thread. I am replacing a HD in an Inspiron 6000. I am replacing a 60 GB 5400 RPM drive. Can I install a 7200 RPM without any difficulties?

    Thanks!

Yes any 7200 RPM IDE/PATA/ATA drive will work.

I installed a 160GB 5400rpm drive in my sisters Inspiron 6000. Some older IDE/ATA laptops have a limit on HDD size, generally 120GB I think. The Inspiron 6000 doesn't have this limit.

Getting a 5400 rpm drive is probably your best shot; they're cheaper, and actually even faster than any 7200 rpm PATA drive available. Try doing a search for the Samsung HM160HC on this site; theres a lot of good info there.

Yes, the Samsung HM160HC is probably the fastest IDE/PATA 2.5 inch HDD you can buy. Scores about 52MB/s in HDTach from what I can remember (I have one). It's also very quiet.

I believe Western Digital also has some BEVE model HDD's that are available up to 320GB capacity but somewhat slower in HDTach (high 40's if I remember correctly).
