    Hi everybody,

After solving the memory problem, I'm now planning to to upgrade the hard drive of my Toshiba Satellite 1805-S253 notebook, which currently has a 15GB 4200rpm with an Enhanced IDE (ATA-4) interface.

Since I'm planning to use this computer only as a dedicated MP3 player, I'm looking for a cheap 40-80GB 5400rpm HD.

My question is: can I buy *any* 2,5" internal IDE HD? Or is there anything I should care about?

After my memory upgrade hell, I'm just worried things could go wrong again... (remember this is an old computer!)

    Thanks!

The second part of my question is what to do with the old 15GB HD, but for that I will open another topic...

Any 2.5" hard drive should work in a notebook that uses 2.5" hard drives.

Just make sure the HDD supports ATA4, EIDE.

So this Fujitsu MHV2040BH with ATA/ATAPI-7 and SATA interfaces won't work, right?

How can I tell what is the maximum ATA-x interface my computer supports? I know it came with ATA-4 HDD, but maybe it also works with slightly faster interfaces...

No. You should be looking for parallel ATA disks, not SATA disks. Other than that it doesn`t matter.

I`m not sure if there are ATAPI 7 compliant PATA disks, but the one you mentioned is SATA for sure and won`t work.
