i have recently purchased an upgraded set of ram for this laptop and now moving to the hard drive.

Im looking for some help, because after wasting 80bucks*. im not looking to do that again. My laptop has a seagate 250GB 5400.4 HD. Im looking to upgrade it to a faster one(most likely 7200rpm) what do you guys recommend? after about an hour of looking, ive come up with, the seagate 7200.3 or the western digital scorpio black 7200(WD2500BJK or WD2500BEKT)

*bought a seagate 7200.2 and then found out it was slower

    thanks for the help

    Check out this thread....
Both have a 5 year warranty, if bought as Retail....
Different benchmarks show different results, with one ahead of the other or vice versa....but the difference isn't much and is insignificant in the overall experience comparison.
Have a look at the Hitachi 7K320 as well, but I think it has only got a three year warranty..!!

This review compares your Seagate 5400.4 with WD Black Scorpio and Seagate 7200.3
Conclusion: WD Black Scorpio was the winner.

But, if you're expecting big speed differences with your current Seagate drive you may be setting yourself up for disappointment. Maybe it's better to have a look at the OCZ Core SSDs. They offer a big speed improvement over the traditional harddisks.

i would look at hitachi but im not a big fan for some reason. Most likely becasue of my hate or cheap and crappy jap cars.

but in always having an open mind what can you tell me about them. the specs "look" good.

as well as i cant find any WD scorpio blacks on ebay. as reading that thread has made up my mind in what to get

hitachi drives are not designed or made in japan, they are made in thailand, and they are generally designed in the USA.
I dislike asian import cars too, but that doesnt stop me. I drive an all American made Peterbilt from 1974.
Anyways, Seagate and western digital are almost always made in china or thailand, so its not like you can avoid it anywhere. The only drives not made their are samsung, cause they make everything in Korea.
The best harddrive I have ever had was a good ole 4mb Digital, it was made in West Germany, and that thing still runs perfect and its over 20 yrs old. Nothing runs like precision german made parts :D
