I own a Dell Inspiron 1520 with 2 Ghz, 1 GM RAM, 120 GB HDD.

I just want to upgrade/add new HDD and new RAM..

for the ram. You don't have to buy it from here but this is the specs.

your laptop can handle a max of 2x2gb 200pin DDR2. If you operating system is Vista 32bit or XP 32bit you're better of keeping the old ram and just adding to it because vista and XP 32bit won't recognise all you 4gb of ram:
    If you have 2x512; add 1x2gb = 2.5gb
    if you have 1x1gb; add 1x2gb = 3 gb

For harddrive, go with the latest generation 7200 rpm drives. The Hitachi 7K320 and the WD 320gb 7200 Black edition are great drives. They are currently the fastest mechanical drives for the SATA interface.
The latest generation drives are also very power efficient, so you do not need to worry that much about loosing battery life.
If you are concerned though, the Seagate 7200.4 is the most power efficient of the 7200rpm 320gb drives.

If you need more than 320gb of space, your only option is the Samsung HM500LI. (Its a 500gb 5400rpm drive in a standard 9.5mm thick casing - The Hitachi 5k500 will not fit in your system, cause it is 12.5mm thick)

naton, called the shots on the memory, but his link for the Pc6400 is the same as the Pc5300 one.
If your looking for Pc6400, than go for this one:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227251

your system chipset can only recognize Pc5300 speeds, so if you decide to get the Pc6400, it will automatically downclock to Pc5300 speeds.
