    HDD - Samsung vs. Toshiba 640GB

    I'm planing on buying an external HDD and I don't know which one to choose in between these two.

    Samsung and more

    Toshiba and more

    The latest Toshiba HDDs have some good results, particularly for power efficiency, at Toms Hardware. Toshiba have now taken over Fujitsu's HDDs and their latest models are also good.

    I see that the Samsung HDD has the USB controller on board which limits your options. For example, you can't take the HDD out and put either into a computer or into an enclosure with eSATA.

    Oh, that's a nice insight. Thanks for that, I didn't even notice that. Even though I won't use it for other purpose than as an external HDD, who knows... I think I'm gonna go for Toshiba. It even looks prettier.
