I have a 200 GB Hitachi SATA 7k200 Travelstar 7200 RPM HDD that I just slapped into my notebook.

    Here are the HDTune results:

The starting temp. was 38 C, and ended at what you see in HDTune.

I told you it would work.

Matt, try shutting off some background processes, via msconfig. It seems that something is trying to use the harddrive in the background. This is why the benchmark shows so many spikes. After shutting off something like background virus scans or whatever you should be getting about 52mb/sec average.

I hope you are enjoying the performance gain

Yeah, I should've done the test before I installed NIS 2008.

In any case, it's a definite improvement to the old HDD. I'll pop it in later tonight and bench it, to compare. It's the same setup as my new HDD, so the comparison will be valid.
