I have a quick question. Can I have 2 devices simultaneously access my drives with one of these:
Mediasonic
One via the esata interface & the other over USB
Thanks

I hope that doesn't work because it would almost certainly mess up the file system.
What you are looking for is called "network attached storage" (short: NAS). -
Unfortunately this is not what I'm looking for. My media player cannot play .iso or full-DVD contents over ethernet, but only over USB or eSata.
At the same time, my media server needs to stream files to the internet.
Perhaps I can get a NAS, but I'd hesitate having programs akin to ORB doing on the fly conversion from files stored on a NAS, no?
Thanks -
Doubtful. Most hard drive adapters (that's all an enclosure is - an adapter bolted to a metal box) only do one connection at a time.

That's what I figured, and what makes logical sense to me, but I had someone tell me otherwise, just thought I'd query the field in case there is something seemingly counter-intuitive out there =]

Hey !! I have a rosewill rx358 dual outer connection enclosure. I'll plug both the USB and ESATA in and see what happens.
-
OK what happens is that ESATA is the primary connection that the chip looks at if both USB and ESATA are plugged in. If I have them both plugged in, it's connected thru ESATA. If I then unplug ESATA, it immediately connects with USB, if I then plug ESATA back in, it switches back to ESATA.
Looking on disk management on win7 and "devices and printers", I can see that both are not connected at the same time.
