Hi guys,I just have a quick question.

Which of these two hard disk will be faster??

    1. 2x160GB at 5400rpm
    2. 300GB at 4200rpm

The reason I am asking this seemingly obvious question is because in a thread, ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=215419),it was pointed out that the slower 5400rpm disk might still be faster than a smaller 7200rpm disk, due to the higher density..
I am in the middle of choosing between two laptops http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=215379)
,and this is a main concern for me in choosing the two.

    Thank you all for responding.

The 2x 160 Gb, hands down. 5400 Rpm is a lot faster then the 4200 rpm drives.
Are they in RAID mode? If they are in RAID Stripe then they kill the 4200 rpm drive for sure.

Yes, 1. is definitely a better choice. 4200 rpm drives are very sluggish and should always be avoided.

4200rpm is 77% of 5400rpm/ 5400rpm is 75% of 7200rpm the same density issues are involved and a 300GB 4200rpm HDD likely has faster transfer than a single 160GB 5400rpm HDD. Two vs one whole different story depends on how you configure.
