Hey all this is my first post, take it easy ;)
    I have a sager np2090 v elite (mother board IFL90)
It currently has 2GB ram and a 100 gb hdd which I am going to upgrade. I bought the compatible hdd (hitachi 7k320-160 160 gb, 7200 rpm) and G.Skill ram 2x2GB pc2-5300
Now i just tried to swap out the old hard drive for the new and I have a windows 7 disc to install but it freezes at the "expanding files" part of set up.
I got frustrated with that so I decided to throw the old hdd back in and see if my new ram worked but when i powered up the screen was blank...
Any suggestions for either queery would be nice....
p.s. I did unplug laptop and battery when installing memory

Restore the machine to its original configuration and see if it works? At least you'll know if the problem is with your new hardware or the laptop itself...

How long did you wait for the "Expanding files..." status to progress?

I waited 5 minutes for the files to expand, I have downloaded many operating systems on my laptop so I know that it's not supposed to take that long for no result. It just stuck at 0%

Was there disk activity? How much? Have you tried re-burning the ISO at a slower speed?

    try updating your BIOS.

also can you try just one of those 2gb sticks in there?

Yes, the disk was active, just a blank screen. I'll try re-burning it but I went with a medium speed to begin with...It's worth a try though.

I updated my bios to a more current version. And I tried just one stick at a time. When I put a new stick on top and an old on the bottom it still couldn't read the new one (told me that there was only 1GB of RAM). But when I put a new one on the bottom and an old one on the top it wasn't able to read either of them. So one would'nt think that the top slot was worn because it still worked with the old ram and it just won't read the new ram. :S

that is very strange to say the least.

If you are sure the ram is compatible then maybe it's just some bad ram.
Are you able to return it and get your money back?

Yeah, I should be able to return the ram. Newegg is pretty good about that stuff. I'll probably try some different, comparable RAM just to be sure.
