So this is about desktop hardware, so if this gets closed, so be it, but I'd really rather not create a whole new account at desktopreview just for one question... anyway, a freind of mine is builing himself a new system, and is interested in a case that is known for bad HDD cooling. I was wondering if any of you know of any good HDD coolers (probably some sort of heat sink/fan/heatpipe/peltier thing) that can affix to a standard drive without requiring a 5.25" bay be used, it would be appreciated. I've searched around some, but can't find anything that I feel good recommending without better info.

a normal laptop cooler is enough to cool a hdd.
you dont need a hdd cooler.
just buy a normal laptop cooler like zalman nc2000.
with this cooler u should have no problem.

if you are searching for desktop cooler the hdd will cool enough if there is a good curcilation in the desktop case and a good brand hdd will not usually get hot.
dont really care about hdd -
As long as there is airflow over the drive, you should be okay. You shouldnt need a passively cooled harddrive core. I have seen them, they do exist.
Just stick an 80mm, 92mm, 120mm fan on one side of the harddrive, and have the airflow blowing across the top side and underside of the drive and it will run cool.

Thanks, K-Tron. He was just concerned because the case he's looking at has reviews saying the case has a problem keeping drives cool, so he wanted to suplement it. Do you think extra/upgraded fans would just be the easiest way to do it?
