    Hey all,
I need a 500+ gb external hdd, and figured that it would be better just to go the internal + exclosure way. I'll use it primarily for movies and a bit of backing up. The lack of active cooling on the Vantec worries me a bit, as I'll be playing movies off of it for 4 straight hours every saturday and probably around an hour or more everyday (movie club). Should I still get the Vantec one or the AMS?
Also, does it matter if I get SATA or IDE for an external hdd? It would connect through usb.

Other suggestions would be great too :)
    Thanks!

It would almost make better sense price wise to just get an external hard drive that is already together. They cost less than or the same as an internal+enclosure choice. However, if you really want the internal+enclosure, I would recommend the Vantec. I have the 2.5" version of the one you are looking at, and it works like a charm.
