Hallo everyone. I have a laptop ASUS X50V. It is quite new, bought a 2 months ago. After I've bought I decided to ask a programmer to install Win XP instead of Vista preinstalled. This guy turned out to be quite stupid and he forgot to install audio drivers and I had no sound + I had blue-screens-of-death all the time. I had to use reset button after each blue screen. In the end, I've found the drivers I needed and got sound working. However, blue screens continued to pop up..

So I've decided to reinstall Windows.
I tried XP first and during the process of copying (not installation itself) there were errors saying that some files couldn't be copied because there is smth wrong with hard drive. Tried many times. This error appeared with different files during copying (SO its no the CD as some of you may say). Bu the way, I also made full hard drive formatting.

After that I tried to install Vista from the recovery CD I was given. Didn't work. There was either blue screen during the recovery process or a grey screen with big red letters: ERROR.

I used XP disc then. Tried recovery functions it provided. I tried: "chkdsc /p" first. It said that it found errors on hdd. Then I used "chkdsk /r" command to let it recover. Tried installing Windows after that. No change.

So, guys. I need your sensible replies. Please don't tell me to go to warranty service or something. For me its not an option.
Maybe I should try something else? Other commands in recovery? I don't know. Please help!

Tough luck, because that's exactly what I'm going to tell you. Your harddisk is dying. What you're going to do about it is up to you. Getting it fixed under warranty would be the best option. Otherwise, you'll presumably have to pay to get it fixed.
But it's still dying, and there isn't much you can do about it.

Heh.. ok. Thx anyway. I just still had hope that maybe I don't need to use warranty.

Er, why? If it's still covered by warranty, why not use it?

Anyway, when a harddrive starts showing errors, it's only a matter of time before it dies completely. You can usually fix the first couple of errors (by having something like chkdsk mark the failing sectors as bad), but that's really only good for trying to gain enough time to make a backup. Once the first errors show up, more will generally follow within a few days.

Ok. I understand that. Its just such a pain to call support service than send them the laptop by post. I have never done it before actually. Most of problems with my computer I always can fix myself. That's why I am not so ambitious about it. But thanks anyway. At least I know that I can't do anything about it.
