    Hello,

My R3 comes in soon and I'm looking to get the WD Scorpio Black 750GB 7200RPM HDD...

I was wondering if there are any other HDD's out there today that could give me more value for my money by giving me more space while also keeping my performance levels the same if not better on the HDD...or is the one I am
looking at the best one in terms of size/performance?

The reliability of the HDD is also very important to me...

    Thanks!

My Scorpio Black 750 GB has been going good for 2+ months in my 2nd Z61t. It's quiet and fast. Scorpio Black 500 GB can be had for pretty cheap these days, 50-55 online..

Well, the storage device you want is going to be determined by what you prioritize.

    * Capacity: 750GB is going to realistically be the largest 7200rpm 2.5" drive you can buy. This will run you about $90 as an aftermarket part, with relative performance of about 2/10. If you want capacity above all else, this is what to get.

    * Balance between Capacity / Performance: You'll want the Seagate Momentus XT (not the regular non-XT model) Hybrid drive in its 500GB capacity. This will run you about $100 as an aftermarket part, with relative performance of about 5/10.

    * Performance: You will want a Solid State Disk (SSD). This is the Ferrari of laptop storage... expensive, impractical, low capacity, but nosebleedingly fast. This will run you about $200 for a 120GB model as an aftermarket part (about $390 for 240GB), with relative performance of 10/10. See my signature for some videos of SSD performance, if you're intrigued.

Rocking two Scorpio Blacks here, no problems yet.
Leaning towards a fat SSD in the far future but the Scorpio's are performing well so far.
    I think there's a 9.5mm 1TB out already?

Thanks for all the answers guys.

Sorry I should have mentioned that the HDD is going to be my secondary and a SSD is going to be my primary.
In regards to the Momentus XT. I heard that it does not preform as well as it would as a secondary drive. Is this true?

You could also look at the Hitachi 7K750, slightly slower than the scorpio black, but since it won't be your boot drive, it will do the job quite nicely. Usually, you can find it $10 cheaper than the 750GB scorpio black.

Benchmarks for the 7K750: http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...pgrades/604870-benchmarked-hitachi-7k750.html I'll be putting that drive in my G73 soon too, then get a SSD for the OS as soon as i can decide which one to get.
