I have a Dell Inspiron 6400, Core 2 Duo T5600 @ 1.83GHz, 2GB Ram, Windows Vista Home Premium.. My hard disk is a HITACHI 80GB 7200RPM... I want to upgrade to a higher capacity drive.

    My 2 options are:
    - Seagate Momentus 7200.2 ST9200420AS 200GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s
    - HITACHI Travelstar 7K200 HTS722020K9SA00 (0A50940) 200GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb/s

Is there any reason why should any of these would not work on my computer?
    Any advantages/disadvantages between them?

    Thanks...

both will work aslong as you its the same SATA inteface as your current drive

btw a 320gb 5400rpm will perform the same as a 200gb 7200rpm due to platter density

My current drive is SATA 1.5Gb/s.. Is the Seagate (3.0Gb/s) compatible?

Yes, the interface is backwards compatible and will work at the fastest speed ssupported by both the HDD and the notebook. The Fujitsu MHZ2320BH that I'm now using says it is 3.0Gb/s but doesn't run at that speed. In fact, the main difference you would see with 3.0Gb/s is higher power consumption.

The 200gb 7200rpm drives are fast, but as flipfire mentioned, the 200gb drives mentioned are identical in speed to the cheaper and more power efficient 320gb 5400rpm drives.
Matt is Pro, just upgraded to the 7k200 in his inspiron 6400 and he is enjoying the power and speed from the drive.

Do not buy the harddrive through Dell, they will charge you much more for the product than you can get at any online retailer.
Both the 200gb 7200rpm drives and the 320gb 5400rpm drive are roughly $130-140 from most e-tailers.
