I am looking for an HDMI cable for my Asus N10J netbook/notebook. I probably will only be using for occasional movie viewing.
Is there really a difference cable quality considering it's all digital? I want a six foot (2m) cable, and can buy one from my local super store (Meijer, Kmart, Walmart) for $15-$20.
Places like Best Buy only have $60 ones.
Help!?

Here is an article from PopMech, may be of some use: http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/upgrade/4235717.html. I have a cheapo Newegg and it looks fine...but seeing that many of the displays at department stores showing off cables/resolutions are rigged who knows what looks *good* these days. Good luck.

certainly DON'T buy one from Best Buy OR wal-mart. you can get the newest HDMI technology (1.3b) for only a few dollars online!
Here's one for $7 shipped- http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=210802226&listingid=38543870&dcaid=17902 -
Look at monoprice for cheap cables, http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp

Yeah dont get it at any retail store. You can get packs of 3 for like 6 bucks shipped online.

Thanks guys. Just ordered TWO HDMI cables from MonoPrice.com for $12. I wanted two, but didn't want to spend the money at retail. Now it's cheaper for two than one at retail. Nice thing too is the shipping cost was the same for one or two, just an extra $3.34 for the other cable. Not many places do that!

monoprice is good thats where I get most of my cables from. Occasionally newegg.com, frys.com, or a few other places.
I needed a USB A --> Cable for my IPAC and wallmarts lowest price as like $15 and RadioShack was like $30 while Newegg had one for $2.50....
Even after shipping it was less than half price, but I needed some blank media too so that made the shipping cost be less of a factor. -
As long as its HDMI 1.3 and its an oxygen free cable, you should be good.

I bought some from EBay for a relatively cheap price, they look like high quality materials, oxygen free cable.

I got lucky the other day, my online retailer had some HDMI cables priced as follows
1m £2
2m £3
5m £6
10m £12
15m £2.50
I only needed a short cable and thought I would go for the 15m as it was either priced incorrectly and the order would be cancelled or they missed the decimal point out and I would get my needed 1.5m cable.
I got a 15m for £2.50
Regards quality, unless you are pushing the limit for the cable length then go for the cheapest quality cable you can find. The picture quality will be the same (all those that say you get brighter colours and better contrast with good quality HDMI are suffering a placebo effect as the signal is digital so cannot have this effect on the picture). The time when a HDMI cable causes problems are when you get bit-dropout on long cables which looks like random odd dots, at worst it can cause the TV to loose sync with the data and the display will vanish. -
Thanks. I'm looking for 6ft or 2m. Of course now I'm looking at an HDMI switch since my one TV only has one HDMI input. But I'm assuming two 6ft cables shouldn't be an issue either?
