I have basically found myself a laptop that fits the majority of the criteria that I set up. I intend to purchase it mostly for movies, internet, music and minor gaming. Since it is going to be easy on the gaming, the GPU isn't exactly fancy (8600 GS), and it only comes with a VGA output.
I intend this laptop to last me around 3 year, during which time I also plan to buy a LCD and hook the laptop to it in order to watch movies in quality. So the question is this - Can I get a good picture and sound quality on the LCD while using only the VGA output or should I aim for a HDMI card?
Thank you in advance

You won't get any sound quality by VGA because that'll be video only.
Because you want quality for your movies and multimedia sent to the TV, I suggest going with an HDMI-equipped unit. Only one cable for both audio and video, and it has better quality. -
Thank you, going to look for a new GPU. Can you perhaps recommend something off the bat? Something mainstream and not fancy.

Studio 15/17?
XPS M1330/1530?
HDMI and DVI
