Hey I have my thinkpad T420 connected to my TV using a display port adaptor and HDMI cable. I was wondering if there is anyway to enable sound only on my thinkpad rather than the TV. I want to plug my headphones into my laptop and listen from their but watch my TV.

Yes, right click on the sound icon in the task bar and choose playback device. Set your thinkpad speakers or headphones as the default and it should work. You might have to do that before you launch your media player. It worked for me when i was using a bluetooth headset for skype and wanted to use the laptop speakers for music.
