    Hello guys,

I have a problem with my laptop's HDMI port. For some reason HDMI port seems to be dead. It's not a driver's issue since it does not work even when the computer is powered on (earlier it used to display BIOS stuff on the external display when booting.

When connecting external monitor via VGA cable everything seems to be working as expected.

The laptop is a few years old and is not covered by the warranty anymore.

Any ideas on where I can start troubleshooting this issue?

You can't do anything.. Either live with VGA or buy a new laptop.. Replacing the motherboard will be really expensive and honestly the investment is better served getting a new laptop...

Yup. You're out-of-luck. As a last-ditch effort, I'd recommend trying a different HDMI cable before you write off the HDMI port as dead. There's a very slim chance that it's the HDMI cable that went bad, and not the HDMI port itself.

The only way to repair a defective HDMI port is to replace the entire motherboard. But since there's nothing really special about an Asus N53SN laptop, I can tell you that it will literally cost you more in time and money to repair that laptop, than it would be to just buy a completely new one. Motherboards are not cheap, easy to find, or easy to replace.

I've found that not only does using different cables help, but also powering off everything and unplugging the AC cord too for a half hour or so does too.

But for sure; buy a new notebook instead of fixing the old one.
