    Hello,

I'm looking at picking up a new Laptop and am looking at the HP9030us model. It has a regular DVD drive (no HD or Blu-Ray) but it comes with an HDMI port (and it says a Hi-def screen). I'm not that familiar with all the HD components but my main question is...what would be the main purpose of having an HDMI port on a laptop that doesn't have a hidef DVD player? Does it improve regular DVD quality if I output it to an HDTV? Is it so I can download HD content from the web and output it to an HDTV?

I guess what it comes down to is it worth it to have an HDMI port on the laptop if you don't have a Blu-Ray or HDDVD in your laptop?

If anyone can help me with my questions, I would be grateful! Thanks.

It is used when you download some high definition content, then you can play it throught the HDMI, as you have mentioned. I think you have to have a HD compatible graphics cards, otherwise the HD may not play properly. I'm not sure of this. Also, when the prices for HD drives decreases, you can add a drive to your notebook, and then watch HD discs that are on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray.
