Is it possible to connect a blu-ray player (HDMI) to a Monitor (DisplayPort) with an adapter such as this one:

I'm looking to purchase the HP ZR24W Monitor which has DVI and DisplayPort connections and I'd be using the DVI port for my MacBook Pro but I also want to connect a blu-ray player.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

DisplayPort supports HDCP and and ZR24W supports HDCP so I would say yes.

I'm just educated guessing here, don't take my word for it.

It seems that other people are connecting their Bluray player.

I'm still not sure about this because from what I can gather you go from DP > HDMI but not the other way around. Here's what it says on the Official DisplayPort website:

DisplayPort-to-HDMI adaptors and DisplayPort-to-DVI adapters are very simple and only operate one way. For instance, when a DP-to-HDMI adaptor is connected to a PC that supports DP++ (multimode) capability, the PC senses the presence of the adaptor and sends HDMI signals over the DisplayPort connector rather than DisplayPort signals. No signal conversion is performed by the HDM adaptor. HDMI signals are merely passed through. The unique DisplayPort adaptor capability enables the PC to connect to a variety of displays via the DisplayPort connector including HDMI, DVI, and VGA. VGA adaptors are more complex and perform active signal conversion from DisplayPort to VGA. These adaptors also operate only one way. Unfortunately, HDMI does not support conversion to other display formats as does DisplayPort.

I'm not sure but I don't see how else that guy be able to connect his Bluray player.

If you're not getting your answer here I would try the HP support forums:

there's probably a lot of knowledge specific to your monitor.

You could use a DVI switch to plug them both into the monitor's DVI port. Just use an HDMI to DVI converter.

    Something like this should do.
