I have a Dell 3007WHP-HC monitor. It's 30", accepts dual-link DVI, and has a resoution of 2560x1600.
Is there an HDMI to Dual-Link DVI-D cable or adaptor available, that would allow me to take an HDMI output from a laptop, and run this monitor at it's 2560x1600 native resolution? This would alleviate the need for me to buy a laptop with dual-link DVI-D output, as there are not too many of them.
Thanks very much.

I'm pretty sure HDMI is limited to a maximum of 1920x1200...might be wrong though
-
^HDMI 1.3 can do 2560x1600 WQXGA. VGA is limited to 1920x1200
Its a shame that monitor doesnt have HDMI. I havent seen a HDMI to dual link DVI cable.
Check ebay, they usually have whacky cables. -

That should be along the lines of what you should need, I now have a 30" lcd Hp 3065C but I don't have any notebooks to test them hdmi ports on -
Great, thanks much for the responses. Sounds like HDMI 1.3 is the way to go.
Quick follow-up: How can one determine what version of HDMI a currently available laptop has? In just about every spec sheet, they merely state the laptop has "HDMI", but the manufacturers don't seem to be stating what version of HDMI. Is anyone aware of a site that summarizes this info?
Thanks again. -

HDMI 1.0 came out on 2002
HDMI 1.3 and 1.3a came out on 2006, i dont even think notebooks had HDMI ports back then.
HDMI 1.3b & c are just like beta testing versions for compliance purposes.
You will definitely have a 1.3a which is the standard you find on electronics these days. -
-
Dell must be on a budget because HP notebooks that came out that same time definitely has 1.3b
Wait.. did the HDMI 1.2 studio come with integrated or dedicated?
EDIT: Wow, studio 15's HDMI out cant even do audio out. thats shocking -
I have contacted customer support for several laptop companies, and most do not know what version of HDMI their laptops have. Sigh. I'm in the market for an HDMI 1.3, 17", 1920x1200 res laptop. Anyone know anything that meets these requirements? Thanks very much.

Try checking the video cards manufacturer instead because its actually them that provide the HDMI.
-
Or you can READ the notebook documentation (HP has it listed in their site, DELL has it in their manual, and I'm sure other manufacturers have it written somewhere too)
First you make a short list of 17” notebooks with your requirements (CPU, GPU, resolution, whether or not it has HDMI) : based on the specs you can easily find on the internet. Once you have a list of 5 or 6 notebooks then try to find out which HDMI version they have. Or post here, maybe some of us can help.
Trying to filter based on the HDMI spec from the start is not going to help. -
Not many notebooks have dual link DVI much less HDMI 1.3. Your best bet is to just find one with dual link DVI and if you ever want HDMI just get DVI->HDMI cable.

I appreciate the comments and help. I just found this from NVIDIA, so I will narrow down my search for laptops to ones with the GeForce 9M family:
The NVIDIA GeForce 9M family of GPUs also feature:
A new graphics engine that delivers up to 40% faster performance than the previous generation GeForce notebook GPUs and 10x the performance of integrated graphics solutions
New PureVideo® HD video processing features for improved color and contrast
Full support for the latest Blu-ray advancements including BD-Live and dual-stream video playback
Extensive multi-display connectivity with support for all the latest display standards including DVI, HDMI 1.3, Display Port 1.1, and VGA
Support for the new MXM version 3.0 graphics module specification

Doesnt matter though, im pretty happy with mine. -
This was helpful to me, and might be to some of you as well:

This Gateway has the 9800M GTS card, but then they go on to say in the specs that the HDMI version is 1.2. Very confusing. Fair to assume this is a typo?

Well, the Sager 5793 has a 9800M GTS card, so based on the info above from NVIDIA, it should have HDMI 1.3. However, this is the info I just received from Sager Tech support:

I have the P-7811fx (the predecessor of the gateway laptop linked), and am quite happy with it. The box says that the HDMI version is 1.3, but I have been unable to test this, as it turns out that HDMI-->Dual-Link DVI cables don't actually run the full dual-link. If you can find a monitor that accepts HDMI 1.3 input (only the dell wfp3008, as far as I am aware), the gateway should be able to drive it. Otherwise, you're out of luck =p. I have no clue why laptop manufacturers are switching from DVI-D to HDMI...

I have the OCZ Whitebook with HDMI.
Can someone verify does the HDMI 1.3 -> DVI cable have dual link capabilites? I understand the 1.3+ part supports up to 2560x1600 but is the DVI side dual link?
I need to make sure it works before I buy it because I have been reading different things on other threads.
