It's great for watching movies or ,if you have a wireless controller, playing Halo 2. I use my laptop mainly for work so it's not great for me.

Next two years? Not really useful. If you have an HDMI capable TV, you'll either be watching cable or ALREADY have a dvd player attached to it.

but wouldn't it be possible to connect your computer up through a S-video and audio outs to a HD compliant TV?

    yeah but the quality sucks...
but another question! i dont have a hdmi connection on my vostro 1500 but a vga connection! And I have a vga connection on my hdtv too! And it looks very good when i connect my notebook to the tv.
Do u think that it would be nicer if i had a hdmi connection in my notebook and would connect the two devices through hdmi, or is vga and hdmi pretty much the same video quality?

HDMI is more or less a smaller version of a DVI-D connector. Both carry LVDS signals.
The difference between LVDS and analog RGB (VGA) is very small. However, LVDS is indeed better. Just not by enough to warrant upgrading just to improve image quality, but it is good to try to go for LVDS with new hardware.

BTW, in an application where space is a limit and both LVDS and analog RGB output are required, a DVI-I connector would be the choice. It would directly accept DVI connections and can be easily converted into HDMI or VGA with a passive connector.
