Got a new netbook , the battery was 50% when i got it , so i plugged in the charger and i was using the netbook while it was charging but at around 80% the charge led on the front of the netbook changed from orange to green, but the windows charge meter said the netbook was still charging and it eventually got to 100% and the charging stopped.

So i decided to use the netbook on battery and when the battery charge got down to 80% the green charge led changed to orange.

Now i used mobile meter to check the battery and it is perfect 0% wear level.

I did a general search on the net for 80% battery problems and it might have something to do with a battery care function , by only charging to 80% and not 100% the battery will live longer at the expense of a shorter charge.

Now is this correct or is my charging circuit in my netbook NUTS!

I have had a dozen notebooks and i have never had this happen before.

    Thanks for any help.

Horribly sorry that no one responded to your personal question in 90 minutes. How irresponsible of all of us.

fast charge to 80% and then slow charge to 100%

    or a faulty battery

    or a faulty charging circuit

    or faulty monitoring software

    Which netbook?

Is there anything in the manual or online FAQ? Is there anything in the BIOS?

At the moment I wonder if there is a change to trickle charge at 80%.

    It`s an Hercules E-Café 900-H60G/IAW , an Intel N270 , i945GSE chipset and 1gb ddr2 667mhz and a 6 cell battery.

I contacted Hercules and they sent me a bios , which i flashed but it does the same as before this time just at 90% , maybe it was 90% in the first place not 80%.

Running on battery the charge indicator is green till it discharges, to 89% then turns orange, and the reverse is true, once the charge gets above 90% it turns green.

The manual calls it a battery operation indicator. , and give no indication on what colour means what.

The website appears to be down at the moment but i will give you a link to it anyway.

    Thanks for any help.

EDIT : just notice once the battery charge hits 100% the charge indicator goes out, this did not happen before.

The notebook must fast charge to 90% orange led, then slow charge from 90% to 100% green led, then when full charged the led goes out, that seems right.

But it goes though the reverse when running on battery.
