I am going to buy a customized dv9700t . I intend to use it mostly for running applications, poker, windows vista.. and starcraft 2!!

I don't have infinite money, so now I'm choosing between two options:

    I can either add 1gb ram [from 2-3gb] [100$]

    OR!!!

upgrade from: 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS [149$]
to: 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS

I saw alot of people posting about buying and adding your own RAM, and i'd like to do that if it's simple and cheap , but from what I read a guy like me could easily mess up his own comp doing that.

So which of these two options you think will be better?

Go for the graphics, RAM is easier and cheaper to upgrade down the line.

Definitely go for the faster graphics card, memory is simple and cheap to upgrade.

I feel the same way. You can't upgrade your gpu down the line, but you certainly can with RAM. The RAM will get cheaper too. You can actually get 4gb or RAM these days for $80.

I'll weigh in and say graphics only, because as everyone has pointed out, memory is easy and cheap to upgrade. you're stuck with whatever graphics you choose, so you should go with the biggest and fastest you can afford there!
