    Hello,

I noticed that my hard drive kept making these weird scractching noises from time to time when accessing a particular file. So I decided to defrag the drive, thinking that would help. Boy was I wrong. AFTER Defragging, the hard drive makes that noise now, randomly. Does anyone know what could be the problem and how to fix this?

Also, I have an extra 2.5" HD from an older Toshiba laptop, 60GB 4200RPM ATA/IDE. Does anyone know whether I would be able to swap the HD in my Sony with this older HD? I think the Sony HD is 5200RPM though. Does that matter?

    Thanks everyone!

1.) Scratching noises are NOT normal; if you are under warranty, contact Sony ASAP for a replacement.
2.) If you are not under warranty you will be able to swap hard drives only if the s660 is also IDE. I am not familar with Sony models, but if it's pretty new it's likely SATA or PATA which will not fit. RPM is irrelevant. And the Sony HDD would be 5400 RPM, FYI.

    Best of luck.
