I have just compared two of my Vaio S series laptops. One is my older Vaio SA3 and the other is my recently bought Vaio SVS model. Both are S series and both jave LED display and an resolution of 1600x900.

I notice that I am able to see the "pixels" or graininess on the new SVS. I don't know why the SA3 does not have any of this and both are Matte (Anti-Glare) display.

PS: Doesn't this "pixels" or graininess only occurs on lower resolution displays like the 1366x728...

Also, when comparing the SA3 to the new SVS, it is like night and day, very noticable. And the whites are better on the SA3, especially when looking at the Google home page.

No, it doesn't occur on lower resolution displays (exclusively) - this is dependent on the actual model of the display - some are known for such good spec's yet horrible real world results.

Also, keep in mind that while it is very noticeable to you; someone else will be much less sensitive to it.

As to white point - yeah most newer models are not accurate/pleasing enough - just to be able to claim high brightness levels. If you didn't have both screens to compare to though, you would quickly get used to the 'off white' of the new display.
