    Hello all,

I have several discs, mainly DVDs that are scratched quite nicely. I've unsuccessfully tried to fix one with the tooth paste method...it made it visibly worse.

Just wanted to get some tried and true suggestions on how to fix them (send-in services, devices, etc.). Please include prices as well.

    Thank you!

On the bottom side, some have several scratches, other just a few that cause the disc to halt during playback. I figure, buying something to repair the discs will save me money if I don't have to go buy the movies again.

Skip Doctor it is. I have some buy.com credit, so I'm going to get one of those puppies.

    Thanks!

But I think it gonna recover the disc but I feel the data are little bit lost. When I tried on some game dvds, it showed error around 85-90% of game setup.

    spradhan01,
are you saying that after using skip dr. it showed errors? I never had this problem. but it likely won't work on everything.

I heard bananas and a micro fiber cloth works too. Don't get mad at me if it doesn't and your disc just smells like bananas and doesn't work though.

Well, I essentially paid $1 for it after my store credit, and the reviews are pretty good. If it fixes even 1 DVD (which I'm fairly confident it will), I'll call it a success.

I'll report back when I try it out on a few discs this w/e.

    kapblp,
Yes man. It screwed my Crysis warhead pc dvd. I tried to install it after getting rid of the scratches but the data were lost somehow and the installer stops at 92%. If its a music cd,pic or any other multimedia then it will work great but for PC....as I have experienced.

I have tried the toothpaste method on some discs and it has worked everytime. Mind you the disc can only have minor scratches (not huge gashes) and the toothpaste must be regular white toothpaste (i.e. Colgate). Gel based toothpastes do not work.
