    HI

I have a packard bell mv86-003 laptop. I just updated the BIOS to the latest(2.03) version and the key combinations that control the brightness of the screen(Fn+F6/F7) don't work in windows: the brightness is locked at max. When i press fn+f7(which would normally increase it ) i get no beep. But when i press fn+f6(decrease), the beep is played, but nothing else happens. The strange thing is that when i enter the bios setup program it works fine, the problem only arising when i'm in the os. I'm sure it's not a driver problem because it worked before even when no driver was installed, and i tried both the official catalyst and the omega drivers, but to no avail.

Is there anything i can do, apart from downgrading the BIOS? And if i have to, do i have to also flash the older KBC bios aswell, or just the system BIOS? Will there be any problems if i keep the newer kbc bios?

PLEASE help me quickly because i can't use my laptop: the screen is so bright that it hurts my eyes!

it might be a utility issue.. try searching your original cds for utilities or applications that could help with this..

There is no utility for this. It's clearly bios related, since it works in vista with no drivers installed. Oh well, i'll just downgrade the bios
