I have a Dell Vostro 1400 laptop. Everything is fine until I accidently dropped it in 2007. Since then it's been laggy but still bearable to use.
Recently (end of 2011) the sound device stopped working. I kept on getting a Blue Screen Of Death with no way into safe-mode, etc. So I had to reinstall Windows XP. Now Windows XP says:
IDT High Definition Audio CODEC (conflict/errors).
Location 65535 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus)
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Did my sound chip blow up or something? Should I open laptop to see any burnt stuff? Or maybe chip fell out? Help!

This device cannot start. (Code 10) is usually caused by driver issues. I'd reinstall the IDT audio drivers first before worrying about hardware failures. If you've already reinstalled the audio drivers and you're still getting these issues, then it very well could be a hardware failure
