On the fence... I like Hitachi's quality, but there's no real info out on it yet.

I've read some very good reviews on this drive. One selling point is that it comes in the 9.5mm package, instead of the 12.5mm size for high capacity drives.

Drives these days are fairly comparable in terms of longevity when comparing apples to apples. Some users have said that Hitachi drives tend to be a little louder, but I have no dB rating from any official spec sheet to supplement that (not my opinion anyways).

It does seem to have mostly positive reviews though. If you go for it, give us some feedback!

And yet my experience is quite the contrary: My Hitachis (including HGST) have always been whisper quite.
As was I...before I made the purchase. Nevertheless, the performance is stellar, although this is a new item so longevity remains to be seen.

Could you fire up a crystal disk mark? Curious how much quicker it is compared to my current 5400rpm drive.

Without a doubt, any 7200 RPM drive will show considerable improvement over a 5400 rpm drive. But by comparison, it will probably be slightly louder (assuming it's noticeable at all in the first place).

I'm hoping, but that's not always the case. The 5K500.B wasn't noticeable slower than the 7K500 when it came out, as an example.
