Hi, i`ve laptop (Hp 550 celeron M 550 2.0 Ghz -1mb -533 FSB )
am wanting to upgrade the cpu
on intel gl960 chipset
socket 479 mPGA
according to CPU-Z
i`m wanting to put on it Core Duo T2050 1.6 GHz processor or dual core if it can
can anyone help with which ones will work if any thing else ?? thanks
-
Your Celeron M550 is a SOCKET P processor. The T2050 is a SOCKET M processor so you can't swap them over!
In theory what you want is a Intel Core 2 Duo SOCKET P processor such as a T5750 which has the same clock speed (2000MHz) but 2MB Level 2 cache instead of 1MB and 2 cores instead of 1. You can go higher but this is a good swap.
The bus speed of the GL960 chipset is 533MHz but processors with higher speeds, 667 + 800MHz, usually work fine. Depends on the laptop manufacturers BIOS as well and installation can be hit & miss. Update your BIOS to the latest version and also stick with 533MHz RAM. Higher speed RAM can cause problems with these conversions.
T5750 processor are available on Ebay UK for about £15. Remember to buy new heatsink paste like Arctic Silver etc.
Remember all this is at your own risk and subject to trial and error! -
vidfletch Thank you for your answer
some one has c2d T5250 and wants to sell it to me instead of ebay i thing it is better for me cuz idont live in USA or UK, the processor has 1.5 GHz clock speed , 667 MHz FSB and 2MB too ,SO can it run in mine laptop ????? . little help please ! -
Should be fine assuming the HP BIOS allows it. If it's cheap give it a go. You might not notice a huge difference though. The T5250 clock speed is only 1.5GHz. Well worth a try though!

I puttin the processor but now it takes two boots to work blue screen with dump with (Igdkmd32.sys) i think its video card driver
there is some one replaced the same processor in the same laptop here http://forum.notebookreview.com/5194781-post49.html
he had the same problem which i have
But after looking and looking in this link he solved it with 533 bus speed of ram insteed of 667 or 800 ,any one can explain this to me? -
why no one answering me ?

HP often uses two motherboards, one for celeron and one for dual core CPUs.
Check the link below to see which motherboard you have.

It is more than likely that you have the motherboard that works with single core CPUs only. This is because it uses a crippled version of the intel i960 chipset. I had a similar experience when I tried to upgrade an HP 6720s. I used a T7300 for the upgrade. The CPU was detected by the BIOS, and the laptop worked fine until I installed the graphics card driver. Once the driver installed the laptop required to be booted twice to work properly. The first time it either freezes or the image on the screen is distorted. -
yes I know i have the same, but i`ve discovered a quick solution press f10 to enter the bios and exit from it then laptop will work perfectly after that .. i`m doing that every time i open the laptop ...Is that harm the laptop ? -
