Your Celeron M550 is a SOCKET P processor. The T2050 is a SOCKET M processor so you can't swap them over!

In theory what you want is a Intel Core 2 Duo SOCKET P processor such as a T5750 which has the same clock speed (2000MHz) but 2MB Level 2 cache instead of 1MB and 2 cores instead of 1. You can go higher but this is a good swap.

The bus speed of the GL960 chipset is 533MHz but processors with higher speeds, 667 + 800MHz, usually work fine. Depends on the laptop manufacturers BIOS as well and installation can be hit & miss. Update your BIOS to the latest version and also stick with 533MHz RAM. Higher speed RAM can cause problems with these conversions.

T5750 processor are available on Ebay UK for about £15. Remember to buy new heatsink paste like Arctic Silver etc.

Remember all this is at your own risk and subject to trial and error!

Should be fine assuming the HP BIOS allows it. If it's cheap give it a go. You might not notice a huge difference though. The T5250 clock speed is only 1.5GHz. Well worth a try though!

he had the same problem which i have
But after looking and looking in this link he solved it with 533 bus speed of ram insteed of 667 or 800 ,any one can explain this to me?

HP often uses two motherboards, one for celeron and one for dual core CPUs.
Check the link below to see which motherboard you have.
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/CoreRedirect.jsp?redirectReason=DocIndexPDF&prodSeriesId=3764998&targetPage=http%3A%2F%2Fbizsupport1.austin.hp.com%2Fbc%2Fdocs%2Fsupport%2FSupportManual%2Fc01627018%2Fc01627018.pdf

It is more than likely that you have the motherboard that works with single core CPUs only. This is because it uses a crippled version of the intel i960 chipset. I had a similar experience when I tried to upgrade an HP 6720s. I used a T7300 for the upgrade. The CPU was detected by the BIOS, and the laptop worked fine until I installed the graphics card driver. Once the driver installed the laptop required to be booted twice to work properly. The first time it either freezes or the image on the screen is distorted.

with the HP 6720s, which belongs to a friend, we undid the cpu upgrade and unpgraded the RAM instead.
