HI,
I just got this from compusa, 1 GB ram really sucks, consumes lot of memory (600MB) and CPU time(15%) (Vista!), a friend of mine told me to upgrade it to 2 GB which is recomended. Is this normal for Vista? Whether my friend is correct?
If I have to upgrade memory, I'm planning to ditch current memory (512X2) and buy new 2X1024 Kingston.
I have two options 533/667 Mhz (~37$/GB)
1. KINGSTON KVR533D2S4/1G 1GB (1024MB) PC24200 533MHZ CL4 DDR2 NOTEBOOK SODIMM (KVR533D2S41G)
2.KINGSTON KVR667D2S5/1G 1GB (1024MB) PC5300 667MHZ CL5 DDR2 NOTEBOOK SODIMM (KVR667D2S51G)
Whether both memories are compatible with my laptop?
Please advise,
Vins

Both are compatible and perform just about equally. Get the cheapest ones.

Whether Vista needs 2GB of ram to function reasonably well?
I feel memory (600MB) and CPU time(15%is very bad. My other HP NX6320 does 228 and 4% with 1 Gig.

getting another GB to a total of 2 will definitely speed up your comp. generally with vista, the more ram the better 'cos of superfetch. in win xp its different, half of the ram is just sitting there doing nothing. In vista, it will try to prefetch data that u r 'likely' to use next into parts of the ram that is not occupied by the programs are r running.

Got it, both memory banks are full, so only option is, take out 512X2 pair and get new 2X1024 pair. Once I get my ram, whether I need to take them to some technician to who can removed older and replace with newer?

theyre just under a panel with 2-4 screws. RAM installation is one of the easiest things u can do to ur notebook. each stick is held on by a small metal piece on each side.
