It'll physically fit, so the next hurdle would be bios support... sometimes that can be bypassed too with software like NHC, assuming the bios doesn't completely stop the computer from booting up.

    Ask HP? Try it anyways?

It's a matter of the bios being updated enough to handle it, it's not a setting-in-the-bios thing.

Yes you can upgrade your CPU, but keep in mind that you will void your warranty by doing so.

What exactly are you looking to gain by upgrading the CPU? If you want better performance you are better off adding more RAM or getting a faster (7200RPM) hard drive first. Upgrading those parts does not void your warranty and are much easier to undertake than a CPU upgrade.

Chaz what I'm looking to gain as per the upgrading is just having a notebook that can handle what I through at IE: video editing, gaming, etc. I'll also look into getting a faster hard drive being that I've already upgraded to 2gigs of RAM. What would be a good hard drive to look at with 7200rpm's???

The T2400 can handle all that. Are you sure the CPU is your bottleneck? Usually it is not.
If you are using Windows XP don't forget to optimize your system for use with a dual-core processor:

I'm not trying to prevent you from upgrading the CPU or anything . . . just trying to save you time/money. :)

Chaz I'm still not familiar with the checks as per the info. you gave me right now I can tell just by how fast the system boots up, and downloads I also notice a difference in the time it takes for the computer screen saver to come on I had to adjust the monitor power settings I don't know if the optimizing made that faster or not it sure do seems as if it did thank you so much for everything. I won't be doing the core 2 duo know and wished I hadn't bought the core duo t2600 2.16Ghz cpu that will be in on monday until after I did the optimizing I'm sure the new cpu won't hurt anything and I'll more and likely go ahead and install it anyway.. Hey Chaz it may be overkill but that Seagate Momentus 7200.2- 160gig hdd sure do looks good to have as per a little more capacity and performance in my little laptop, that may be something in the near future I may purchase.............who knows..

Awesome, great to hear. If the difference is apparent to you and you notice the machine is faster then that is all that matters. :)
The hard drive is the slowest component in a computer by far . . . therefore any increase in hard drive speed will be noticeable. I'm also thinking about buying a 7200RPM drive for my new ThinkPad X61 - it has a 120GB 5400RPM drive and I'm not sure if that is going to be fast enough. I'll find out soon enough hopefully . . .

Wow I like the ThinkPad X61 you have Guy.

That just goes show how much I knew about laptop HDD I really didn't know going from a 5400 to a 7200 would be noticeable in performance I saw some pretty descent deals at froogle on the drive(Momentus 7200.2 with G-Force protection drop sensor) I want, so there is where I'll go to try and get a good deal on one..

Before I get to to excited I need to ask you this ? Chaz or anyone else what would be the best way to get the information from my old HDD to the new one safely...
