    Points of Interest:
    1. Increasing Performance
    2. Extending Battery Life
    3. Best drivers
    4. User configuration settings that give the most battery life, best lcd color, best performance.
    5. Cooler and quieter
    6. Improve Touchpad Performance, through drivers, etc.
    7. Any other Mods

    MY CONFIG: HP DM3 1044nr , SU4100, GMA4500hmd, WD3200bekt 7200rpm 320gb.

    What I've discovered so far:

    Still in Progress:
    • ? Hard drive will not spin down, might be able to fix with clean install or putting firefox temp directory on thumb drive.Advice?
    • ?Need PLL and possible pin mod/bios advice for overclocking.

I have the 1039-wm with the Neo L335 and I have successfully undervolted with RMCLOCK but I cannot get it to OC. I've gotten a few PLLs that caused the machine to lock solid, but nothing successful. I'd also be interested in OCing the HD3200 like on desktop mobos, but all my tries with that have also been unsuccesful.

Hp locks PLL so u can't overclock without Pin Mod... SetFSB won't work.

So far I've had no luck on overclocking the su4100 Dm3 (possibly a pin mod or bios mod may do the trick) tried all PLLs in SetFsb and none reported the correct speeds.

As far as undervolting my dm3s lowest voltage available is .9v, the 6x multiplier is already at this voltage so rmclock is pointless as it doesn't do half multipliers 6.5x. Has anyone been able to go below .9v?

Crystalcpuid appears to work at reducing 6.5x to .9v. Will test and report results. My stock idle temps are 37C and after 10min Orthos stress test 47C.

After undervolting with Crystalcpuid 6.5x at .9v my max temp has dropped 3C to 44C after 15min of orthos smallffts test. What Stock temps and Undervolted temps are you guys getting?

Later today I'll try the modified multitouch Synaptics driver and post back

Tried out modded synaptics drivers, they worked however the advanced options were not available and the mouse on/off button did not work.
Scrolling seems better but I think I may go back to the updated alps drivers or the unmodded synaptics.

Which modded synaptics drivers did you use? I'd like to check it out!

So far, the best driver I've found has been ALPS drivers from Acer. It has a circular scroll thing that I like, although it still blows compared with my old laptop's Synaptics pad. Still, it's better than HP's default drivers which don't do circular scroll.

Dell drivers have that circular scroll thing. they are pretty good, try them out.

I tried the Dell drivers too and they were pretty good, but they didn't let me expand the width of the right-sided scroll area quite as much as the Acer drivers. I want to expand it even further, actually, but Acer is the best I could do.

You can just download a patch file to unlock all of the feature in the driver. No need for modded driver.

I have that drive, but the 5400rpm version. What exactly do you mean by "annoying noise"?

Well about every 8 seconds when the hard drive is idle the heads disengage (chi-sssh sound, louder than normal head read), its supposed to save battery life, problem is windows and other programs access the hard drive about every 11 seconds so they're constantly disengaging and engaging. If you use a smart diagnostic tool, it will say loads/unloads, drives are rated rated for about 300,000, after two days I had 1030, after using the program wdidle.exe I get about 10 a day.

Is that exclusive to that hard drive (I mean would I need to do it regardless of the drive in there)? Also, if needed, is it a one time deal set it and forget it type of thing?

I would say it's specific to that drive. I've had many laptop HDD's but only one ever did that and it was a 20GB IBM model out of my old G3 iBook. Otherwise I'd say power-management is messed up somewhere. Check in windows power management advanced settings and see what's set for the time it takes before the HDD sleeps. On some really aggressive power saver plans it can be quite low. Either way something is making the drive sleep and it's either a firmware problem on the drive or it's windows problem with putting it into sleep mode prematurely.

It appears to happen on several Western Digital drives. It a WD program so I'm not sure if it works on other drives. Type wdidle by itself and it will tell you the current idle park setting, mine was 8000ms or 8 seconds. You can change the time to your preference by typing wdidle3 /S xxxxx replace x's with microseconds. After rebooting I verified the settings, it showed idle park disabled and I haven't heard the noise since.

Another Option is disabling programs that randomly access the hard drive, such as windows indexing, windows superfetch and others
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/02/24/ways-to-solve-hard-disk-led-activity-non-stop-blinking-issues/

Process Monitor lets you know exactly which programs are accessing your hard drive
    http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/ProcessMonitor.zip

QUESTION ? Is It possible if I disable all these programs that I'll be able to surf the web with the hard drive spun down and gain some extra battery life ?

    I had to type wdidle3 /D, not wdidle /D.

After I did this and booted up I got a TON of clicks. I rebooted and the registry updated itself... Now it works great!

Exact same thing happened to me. First boot sounded like it was going to kill the drive. I had to force a power down on the machine. After I rebooted Windows ran a chkdsk on the drive and then everything was fine. No more clicks.

I want to point out that I was mistaken and I do not have that drive.
I have the 3200be vt 5400rpm 320GB drive. It only gets about 8 load cycles per hour in use.

After doing the wdidle thing, I have no more clicks. One problem though: my hard drive seems to be constantly running at high speed now. I can feel it vibrating under the left palm rest when I type.

Is there any way to fix this? Is it even a problem?

You can return it to stock by setting wdidle back to 8 seconds to see if it makes a difference (wdidle3 /S 8000 ). My hard drive has always vibrated and been loud since I got the laptop, no change after wdidle. Your probably just noticing it more now that its not clicking.

Yeah possibly. I think I also feel it more because the case is so thin and it's aluminum which carries vibrations more than typical plastic ones.

Has anyone managed to find a way to overclock the su4100? Alienware provides it as an option in the BIOS of the m11x so there must be a way to do it for the dm3, right?
