Hopefully someone here can hook me up with a relatively-definitive answer...

I received an HP DM4 in a recent trade on another forum. The unit showed up with some damage not initially seen in photos and a box that was a bit mangled, perhaps by UPS.

The unit has a few nicks and dents in it that were not there, but most noticeable is the non-functioning page down, end, left arrow, and right arrow keys.

I have taken the keyboard out and reinstalled it...no luck. I tried the software on screen keyboard in Windows 7 and the keystrokes do function when the buttons are clicked on screen.

Is it possible this is nothing more than a keyboard that needs replaced, or is there something else nefarious at play?

    Thanks!

A keyboard should be the simplest device save a battery on any laptop to replace. The fact that it isn't, is just a ridiculous flaw in design.

Replace the keyboard, and you should be fine.

+1, replace the keyboard and enjoy.
