    Hi

    I own a HP DV4 1120us laptop. Running a T5800 @ 2ghz cpu. 4 gb of ram. 250gb HDD and Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

I was wondering how i could upgrade some hardware. the computer performs well and i just want it to keep running nicely.

I was thinking about putting 8gb of ram on it and also the cpu. but i dont know what , if possible, i should put as the replacemente cpu.

    any help would be good

    Thank u

You can easily uprgade the RAM to 8GB ... u should have no problem doing so... however , do u really need that much RAM... it is quite expensive to upgrade and unless u use RAM intensive apps like photoshop , u don't really need that much RAM...4GB is more than enough... for your hard drive , i recommend that u get an SSD or if u want a high capacity hard drive , i would say that the Hitahci 7K500 500GB drive... it's expensive but it's the fastest drive out there... for your CPU , u can use any 1066MHz FSB cpu as you'll have a PM45 chipset so the best ones u can would be T9400/9600/9800/9900... also u can use the P9500/9600/9700... for the cheapest price and best performance , i recommend the P9600 or T9600...

Thank you for the quick response!

The reason im wanting the 8g of ram is because i run a couple of iso's mounted onn virtual drives. i also run Ableton live 8 , guitar pro and gearbox when i record..also photoshop from time to time. I realize its expensive to buy a single 4gb stick.. ranging betwoon 120 - 170 bucks. I havent decided yet whether it is completely worth it.

i will look into the harddrive you suggested, i didnt think it would be too much of a hassle to change the hd... ssd are a bit expensive though.

As far as CPU, i thank you very much cause i was rather lost and didnt know where to look, so i will definitely look into those and hopefully get back when i have made a decision.

thanx again for all ur help! :D

About the upgrades, the Ram and HDD upgrades are easy to do, just see if you have the budget. The CPU is another story, be aware that you will need to take the whole thing apart before you get to the CPU. Look around the DV5 thread, I remember someone taking his computer apart for this purpose.

Oh and check out the "deal" for the T9900:
