    Hi there!

I'm a not so pround owner of a DV6000 series laptop with an AMD CPU. And for twice now, the GPU (onboard) has failed.

I could buy another one, since the laptop is still quite good (has 2Gb RAM), but I'm thinking of instead patching the problem, resolve it once and for all.

What I have in mind is changing all the components necessary for using a Intel CPU. For what I know, I will need:

    - CPU
    - Motherboard
    - Cooler

Since I can get an Intel CPU for free, and the Mobo is about $100 on Ebay, I think it's worth it.

I am posting here for thoughts and opionions regarding this matter.
Is it really worth it? Will it work? Will I need anything else?

    Expert comments needed!

I know how to dissassemble and mount a laptop with no problems whatsoever. ;)

    Best regards,
    João Duarte

What GPU does the Intel board have?

Are you 100% that the $100 motherboard is compatible with your system?

It has the Intel 945GML chipset.

And no, I am not sure it's compatible, that's what I want to know before buying.

Layout and connections are the same for what I can see.

First of all, thanks for the replys.

On the first image, on the bottom right corner. That 4 pin connection. From what I can see it's the same, but could it be any diferrence in terms of voltage/amps?

That is the connection that links the power cable to the mobo.

It's probably the same, or compatible. Do you mean the battery connector? I feel a little blind right now..

Right on the right of the baterry connection, is a small, white square connector with 4 pins.

I see it!! Well it's probably alright, as I would think the DV6000 range would use the same power pack.

Do you think it's worth it?

I will gain a laptop "for life" but I will loose a dedicated 7200GO, which is rather better than an chipset.

At least these mobos don't have the high failure rate of the ones with the Chipset Nvidia... right?

I don't know about that.. I thought that 'nVidia issue' only affected part of the GeForce 8x00 range.
