I currently own a DV6226US and I will be purchasing an AW M15X

Is it wise to buy upgrades such as RAM and HDD from Newegg? Yes in my opinion...

I am thinking about purchasing a Toshiba HDD 160gb or a 320gb WD or a 160GB 7200 Seagate *still depends on the upgrades on AW config.*

I am thinking about buying RAM... PROBLEMS:

    1- PC5400 vs PC5300 vs PC6400 AND PC2 !?

2- RAM sticks are confusing on Newegg... some have the slit on the right, some on the left...

    3- CAS4 vs CAS5

4- TIMINGS... I am a complete ueber noob on that. (5-5-5-18 vs 5-5-5-15 etc...)

If Intel, it cannot make use of PC6400 so no need to get. PC5300 and PC5400 are the same get which ever is cheaper or you like best. As a rule lower latency is better. On PC5300/5400 5 is standard, if you can get 4 go for it but 5 is OK. Don't worry about what side the slit is on in the photo, just shot from different sides. Just confirm 200 pin SO-DIMM and get lifetime warranty.

Whats the difference between PC and PC?

What happens if it has heat spreaders?

    What about HDD...

Because the fastest memory speed any mobile Intel chipset supports is 667Mhz, not 800Mhz (PC6400)
    I don't see a difference.
If it fits then they should help dissipate heat. They are not needed for normal use. Have you found some notebook RAM w/heat spreaders, or just asking what if? I do not see those on notebook RAM.
I don't hear the best things about Toshiba, not really bad stuff just clearly not as good as Hitachi or Seagate. Those 320GB WD are nice and good performance. If 160GB is big enough for you a Seagate @7200 is very good (so is Hitachi).

    I ment PC vs PC2

Why do they even sell PC6400 then?

Yes Notebook memory with heatspreaders... I just saw some GEIL with some heatspreads

Please list the best notebook HDD's... I am looking at the 320gb WD, the 160gb 7200 seagate.... but I dont really know if its worth getting toshiba...

I cant find any hitachis on newegg that are sata thats why I didnt list any

    Some AMD's support.
OK PC2 as it is written clearly indicates DDR2, now any PC above PC3200 is also DDR2 as no DDR is made any faster, but PC3200 could be either DDR2 or DDR. So other than 3200 all others will let you know DDR2 or DDR by the number itself. PC2 is just extra info as PC5300 is a correct way to describe and the number tells me it is DDR2 I don't need to know PC2 as I already know. When DDR3 becomes widely available the same thing will likely happen with PC6400 it could mean both DDR2 or DDR3.

What if the M15X is IDE or PATA ?

That was kind of like the question I was trying to ask...

What if? I assume it is SATA as that is a top end system and SATA is the more current standard. I may be incorrect but doubt it. I will look further to confirm. But at this point trust me. ;)

Edit: Oh yea, RAM is a definite.

    Edit II: Definite SATA checked.

Yes later you might switch to 64bit OS. But it does depend on budget, if you can't afford don't need.

    will the CAS4 (4-4-4-12) make a difference against CAS2 (5-5-5-15)

Isnt the upgrade on AW only like $5 or $15 for the 64bit ?

I don't know what it cost to upgrade to 64 but I guess not much, while you might not want to use 64 (issues) if you can get both cheap do it for later. Lower Cas is better but Chaz (Lead MOD) has pointed out in his opinion on Intel does not make much of a difference. I tend to trust him. If the cost was close I would get Cas 4 but if not Cas 5 would be fine with me, I would not lose sleep.

You have now gone beyond my areas of knowledge. I would guess SATA 1.5 can transfer up to 150MB/s and SATA 3.0 up to 300MB/s. But just guessing! ;)

Because when I look on newegg I only get Hitachi drives under Serial AT150

And only Toshiba drives under SATA 3.0 plus one momentus and one scorpio

Memory with heatspreaders, I am looking at this one

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144066

    and this one

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231135

Why is this G-Skill there!?!?!? Its the same exact thing as the other one just CAS4 ... and about $20 more
