I pull the battery, hold the power button for 5 seconds, put the battery back in, turn it on. Otherwise it simply won't turn on.

If I don't hold the power button and i go straight to putting the battery back in it doesn't work.

    Help?

    Try:

    - Testing your AC adapter with a multimeter

    - Using a known good HP 90 watt AC adapter

    - Removing battery and AC adapter and holding down the power button for 30 seconds 2-3 times

Have you also used a known good battery? Sounds more like a power circuitry issue with your motherboard.

This is a brand new AC adapter. Old battery but I don't believe it's been a problem before. I just isntalled windows 7 on a new hard drive for this computer so maybe that's teh issue.

    I'll try that third thing.

Happened again. HP doesn't seem to provide many drivers for Vista.

Go to Event viewer and see what is going on.

    HP has decent driver support.

Did you try running HP Diagnostics to rule out failing hardware.

But given what you have posted, sounds like a motherboard issue. I believe some DV6700s house the infamous Nvidia chip..

This one does not have an Nvidia chip. IGP only.

I've run diagnostics. I believe it's related to being moved. I've left it on for hours with no problems but then it appears that my mother has been moving it and that often triggers it.

Going to open it up and make sure nothing is lose.
