    Good afternoon all,

I need help for a difficult case that I have in hands, any help is greatly appreciated.

    Introduction:

I have a HP DV6149eu (no warranty whatsoever) that started to beep on startup showing that the onboard video card was faulty. The reference of the motherboard is 433280-001 and someone told me that HP considered the model faulty and is exchanging by the 443774-001. So no need on purchasing the 433280, I looked for the newer 443774.

    The problem:

So I got myself a buyer on Ebay and purchased the motherboard 443774. 125$ and got it at home. But, at home, I received by mistake of the buyer, the motherboard model 432945-001 (that's a DV900 series motherboard).
I contacted the buyer and he told that he would exchange after I send the wrong one. Ok, he payed 20$ for shipping (China -> Portugal), here in Portugal the least I can find is 161$ only for shipping to China. (blame the government I guess)

    Trying to workaround:

The main question of this topic is: Can I use the DV9000 motherboard on the DV6149?

Processor and RAM are compatible, case is almost the same, motherboard have only 2 differences visually (I will point them). The video card is much better (7600 Vs 7200 of the DV6000 motherboard)

    Trying to adapt:

I tried to use the motherboard and the only major difference is the battery connection that, although is the same, is 1cm more to the top than the DV600 motherboard.

(In red I marked the location of the battery socket on the DV600 motherboard)

The other difference is 2nd HDD connector the I may easily remove (I guess)

    (marked in red)

    Ideas:

Ok, please comment on my ideas or new ones... please.

    - Remove the HDD connector and try to find someone that would reconnect the battery slot on the correct socket. (Would it work? explosion free?)

    - Buy the bottom case of a DV9000 and use it with the DV9000 motherboard (both the battery and HDD connector are facing down). The bottom case is compatible with the rest? (screws)
If it work I would then buy a battery of a DV9000.

    - No more ideas... :(

Sorry mods and readers for the large text, I tried to clean it and tried to make it "pause to coffee" free.
Please I need any thoughts regarding this issue.

    Best regards,
    João Duarte

There is no way to use a 17" laptop motherboard on a 15.4" notebook.

A better option would be to sell this motherboard on ebay, if not ship it back to the seller (without any hammering/soldering), and buy yourself another 'compatible' MoBo.

If it was me I'll contact the seller and tell him that's to match for you to pay fto send the mobo back to him, and to pay again for the shipment of a replacement mobo. Then tell him the following: that you'll be listing the mobo (the one he sent you) on ebay, and you want him to guarranty that his mobo is in full working order.

Listing/selling back the mobo in ebay could get you your full money back. Then buy a mobo designed for your laptop.

If you risk the modification you could damage it and lose everything.

    P.S.
If you payed by pay pal you should get all your money back.

for a replacement mobo you could search the compaq laptop equivalent to the DV6000, because usually HP sells a high specs laptops under the brand HP and the same laptops but with a low spec under the brand Compaq.

Tks for the reply's, I'm waiting for the seller to respond to my mail.

Another option, is to buy a HP laptop for parts, that the mobo would fit, I would then have 2 laptops. Can someone check if the motherboard 432945-001 is compatible with HP DV9317cl?

Oh,a thing I did not mention, after I noticed that the motherboard was wrong, I assembled again the laptop.
Now the laptop, sometimes, boots up, but only when it's hot. So to buy a spare one would be a valid option.

This how I usually get parts.

Just be careful. Go for a working laptop with a faulty or smached screen to garranty that the mobo of the laptop you're buying is in full working order. This is because fauly laptops are sold in ebay with no return and no refund.

I thought that you want to fix your own laptop? the DV6000?

Turn ON when the lapto is hot? could be a cold joint (cracked soldering).

Correct naton, the laptop turns on when it's hot. It's the joint between the video chip and the mobo that is weak. This is a known issue.

And no, I am looking for a DV9000 laptop with a faulty motherboard, so I can use the one that came from Ebay. In the end I would have 2 laptops.

I checked and can confirm that a motherboard from any of the following systems will work in the others:

    DV9000 series
    DV9100 series
    DV9200 series
    DV9300 series

one thing that I can't confirm though is what processor is used in the 432945-001. I mean if it's intel or AMD.

    Thanks for the reply.

It's an AMD socket and the processor will come on the faulty laptop that I will buy from Ebay. Only the motherboard will be damaged (I hope)

look for a laptop that does not power up, and buy fron an individual not a shop and you should be fine.

Last, look for a listing that gives a full descibtion of the fault.

    Good luck with this project.

    Hi,
I will tell you my experience which may be disappointing for you.
I have DV6255eu, it had the same problem, and the motherboard was changed under warranty, I am not sure of the old motherboard model, but after approximately 11 months (no warranty now ) the problem is back (until now) and as you said it turns on when it is hot.
The disappointing thing is that the motherboard which was replaced by HP & I have now is 443774-001. So, I assume that even this model 443774-001 is faulty.
I am still searching for a replacement.

It will not work i have tried this my self for the video upgrade. Your also not seeing that the wifi switch on the dv9000 has a little connector and a daughter board vs on the dv6000 its on the board it self. Also yes the battery connecter is moved thus the battery wont fit in the laptop anymore. Along with that the hard drive adaptar you can cut out a half circle thing thats designed to support the motherboard and then it will fit. Unless you dont mind not having a battery or a wifi switch then go with it. Also yes the boards are identical its an easy way for hp to save money just move a few little connectors around.

He bought a dv6000 mobo and received a dv9000 mobo instead. Then he looked for a broken dv9000 to use with the mobo he received. I think by now he must have bought the HP DV9317 he spoted on ebay and replace its faulty mobo :D
