I just bought a new 120gb Samsung hdd for my HP DV9310ca laptop and the caddy. Now I have attached the caddy and the hdd together and inserted it into the laptop without any problems. My issue is the laptop at first would not boot up. Using Vista Ultimate. It would get to the Bios screen and stay there for a bit and then shut down and start up again on its own. It would do this over and over again.

Then somehow, when i decided to do a hard boot, it would then load into windows fine, but then it wouldn't recognize the hdd, or didn't see it. I had to restart and do a couple more hard boots before the system actually went through the process of installing the drivers. This is when I went into the Disk Management through the Control Panel>Administrative Tools>...etc... and formatted the hdd. After another reboot and now vista doesn't see the hdd anymore.

I tried going through the Bios to see if there was something i could do, but I don't see anything there. I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Sorry for the long explanation.

    Thanks in advance.

    Andy

Do you have the bios boot list specified to boot the harddrive?

Also, try taking th cd disk or cd drive out of your laptop. It should boot fine without it installed. Sometimes optical drives cause problems and causes the system not to boot.

u think this will help my system to install and see the 2nd drive? It does boot up now but just doesn't see the drive anymore. when i first installed the drive and after a couple of hard boots and it loaded vista successfully, it did pick up the drive and then after another reboot it didnt see it anymore.

as far as i know there is no disc in the dvd drive and I believe the boot sequence is set to the hard drive.

but i will try what u suggested.

    thanks
