I have a DV9548US sitting here I want to start using as my main computer and use my Desktop just for gaming now.

I recently tossed in 4GB of PC-6400 memory (even though Crucials website claims the notebook is maxed at 2GB). Also, replaced the 2 HDD's in the machine with 2 Hitachi 7,200RPM drives.

I had a few questions about other things I might be able to upgrade.

CPU - I was looking at getting a T9300 or T9500 to replace the T5250 that is in there. I assume I will notice a nice increase, but I wanted to make sure those CPUs are compatible with my machine, I already upgraded to the latest BIOS. Will the X9300 work, seems like it would be a bit pricey anyway.

LCD - I have the 1440x900 LCD panel at the moment, was wondering if there is any upgrade to a 1680x1050 or higher res panel out there.

GPU - It has a 8600M GS, I assume this is on the mobo and can not be upgraded? I read the GPU upgrade thread but it didn't exactly list this GPU though.

    Thanks for the help.

GPU you're stuck with. CPU is doable, I'll defer to others to help you select which one. Do read the HP service guide for your notebook first so you'll understand what a PITA it will be.

Well, youre stuck with the gpu, you will not be able to upgrade that.

You can upgrade your processor. The T5250 is a socket P processor, so you can upgrade to the T7300,t7500, t7700, t8300, t9300,t9500 and so forth. I missed a few, but you get the idea.
Now, when you updated your bios, their should be some notes on the new bios, as to what it fixes.
If it enables the recognition of the new penryn cores, than you can upgrade.
I would not go higher than the t9300/9500, cause the x9300 is a complete rip off.
The T9300 will be much more powerful than your current processor, but you should check to see that the new bios supports it.
If the bios does not support the new 45nm, processors, than the most you can put in there is a T7700.

Thanks for the info guys. The only info I can find about the BIOS update from HP is:

    "Fixes

    Original Software/Drivers

    Enhancements

Updates the fan-control algorithm for the system to reduce the likelihood of future system issues."

Hopefully it included support for the Penryn CPUs. I find it funny that NewEgg has the T9300 CPU cheaper than eBay. Also seeing a ~120 dollar price difference between the T9300 and T9500, the difference is just the 100MHz right?
