An HP notebook I've got came with an Nvidia FX2800m gpu card and a low-end Samsung LTN170BT11 display panel, WXGA+ resolution of 1440 x 900, which I decided to upgrade.

I ordered an WUSGA replacement panel from a third-party vendor. The HP upgrade part # 595709-001 is for a 17 in. screen with a WUXGA resolution of 1920 x 1200. The vendor sent an LG Phillips panel LP171WU5 (TL)(A2) . When put the panel in, and turned the machine on, there was a puff of smoke and a flash of light from the ambient light sensor board. Then darkness.

The only information I can find on the web suggests that this LG Phillips panel # is usually used in Dell machines. Can anybody with access to better reference materials/information/datasheets tell me if these two panels are usually interchangable? Similar pins-outs, voltage, freq., signal, etc.? Was this possibly just a bad panel, or are these two panels fundamentally different and incompatible?
