Sorry this is a long post but bear with me!!!

I bought the special edition dv2000 laptop back in aug 2008, apparently there was the whole heating issue with the motherboard or GPU and i am just hearing about the replacements that HP offered, now my computer won't start and it seems there is no power at all the only lights that come on is the blue light when the adapter connects at the tip asking around and searching on the internet it seems that my motherboard is done for and searching on the internet the overheating caused by the GPU fried the motherboard or that it might be separated from the motherboard or something. I want to get a new motherboard but i knw that will cost a lot and i just paid $400 to get the screen repaired because the hinges and beezle broke and had to replace the back cover too. all in all am just looking for mother board that will be a good replacement, and wanted to knw if the non special edition dv2000 motherboard will work with the special edition dv2000. or if someone can recommend the least time and cost effective way of having a working laptop again because i am a college student and laptop is quite essential and i am extremely stressed as it is so please if anybody got any cost effective way and least time effective i would be quite happy to hear it.

    This is what I'd do(I;m a student on a budget :)).

Sell the Dv2000 for $100-$150. Put that money with the $150 it would cost for a new motherboard and buy a Lenovo B575 or similar laptop. The new motherboard will fail at some point and you'll be in the same position again.

The B575 runs an AMD dual core 1.6GHz, AMD 6310M graphics, 4GB DDR3, 250GB HDD, and Windows 7.

I found one for $270 a few months ago. Other good options are the G560, G570,B570, B560, and G575.

I second this. If you are not performance limited, you can even try for some older, refurbished/used business class ThinkPad or Latitudes.

Thanks for the suggestions. I might end up doing that, also am an IT student so I need a pretty good fast, not super fast laptop to run VMWare machines and other programs I will be using smoothly. Besides anybody knw where I can sell my current laptop at for a good price? The main thing that pisses me off is that I just spent $400 getting the screen and stuff fixed.

I'd put it up on eBay for $175 OBO.
