    Hi
I just had a replacement of my HP battery because I thought the old batterywas dead. It did not hold for more than an hour at most. And it died during the night, even when the computer was off.
Now, with a brand new battery, it is stil the same.
I charge it to 100% and it will rund for an hour or so - then it is completely dead. It will be dead over night, even if it is shut off!

My guess is there must be some setting I can adjust for this. The regular HP battery setup and tuning I have tried, also for WIN7. No change.

I had a new Motherboard put in a while back, and I am not sure if this batteryproblem came before or after this MB replacement.

    Any good ideas outh there?

Boot the system to the bios, unplug AC and let the system discharge till the system powers off from a flat battery. Then connect AC and allow the system to recharge. Doing this will reset the batteries internal metrics so can then power the system for as long as it's physically capable of doing so.

Ok wait. If you ran it for a hour it would be dead because of discharge during use?
Are you saying you recharged it and then it discharged during the night while it was shut down? That would indicate a drain somewhere or faulty cells. Have you tried checking it for charge while outside the laptop? Incidentally where did you buy the new battery?

Yes, it drains empty over night, while off.
And it drains on very short use - approx one hour or so.
And the battery was bought from HP here in Norway.

I tried the procedure from "nando4". After fully recharged, I shut down the pc. It was not connected to power overnight, and now I have power ... although the fully loaded battery from yesterday was down to 45% this morning. But defenately an improvement.

Something is draining the battery while the pc is shut off ... I do not understand.

Honestly, I would just say the battery is faulty. If it's somehow draining itself, that is NOT normal... unless it's some kind of strange battery that is designed to slowly drain itself...

Heck, you might even end up burning your home down with that battery. Try to get it replaced...

Only if he's not leaving some important element out? In my experience, people sometimes have a way of forgetting to tell us they place the batteries on top of the radiator for storage.

On the other hand, it could very well be a batch of batteries with poor quality control?
