wondering do we have a BIOS editor? can it be "hacked" to tweak the frequency control of the processor?

But is it possible to go the other way - to take AMI and select "known" available "drivers" for it so that at least somehow it works? coreboot on our laptop is possible, albeit with minor reservations (unfinished).

    Hello.
do you have any problems installing 460x drivers? It's just that my 457 driver works when installing 460x in the device manager, there is no video card, MSI Afterburner does not find the video card - as if it had died. Rollback to 457 helps. What has nVidia done this time?

I see from your tag that you use wifi 6 ax, what card or adapter are you using? I have an Intel 18260 wigig card that I'd like to use with one of those mini pcie to ngff adapters, but need a fallback in case. Here's the card I have in question: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-1826...-/254071688695?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292

Thanks! Out of curiosity, does it have to be an Intel card? I read on the hp forums that the elitebook 8770W didn't have a whitelist on cards, haven't been able to test it myself though. Also, what is the third antenna for on the stock wifi card?

No, it can be any card, 8770W doesn‘t have a whitelist. The third antenna gives stronger signal for 3x3 cards, which are not in production in half mini pci format anymore.

I too have a HP Elitebook 8770w, but when I tried to add this wifi 6e card

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000966888424.html

I got an error message at startup that says the card was unsupported, id 703.
My Bios version is 68IAV Ver. F.71

Do you have any idea why do I have this problem?

Because you are trying to make it run from WWAN slot and it has whitelist.
You should have bought the one from the link I provided - it is for the WIFI slot and it is Plug&Play.
Now there is a chance to get your current one working, using a tool WWANDOS which basically writes the HW ID of the new card onto the system bios to bypass the whitelist.
But you need to find out the HW ID of this AX200 (I suppose it is the same one as every AX200 on the market, so I will tell you mine - 27238086)
So when you make a bootable MS-DOS usb with WWANDOS.exe tool on it you need to execute „WWANDOS 27238086“ without the quotes.
Then restart the PC and your wifi has to show up and has to be recognized as a whitelisted card without giving you error ID 703 upon startup

Hi, thank you for that advice. I finally managed to use wwandos, (by the way, the card i bought is the AX210and its DEV id is 2725). Unfortunately it didn't work. After using wwandos the card is still being disabled by the bios with the same error code 703.
I inserted the card on both the empty slot (blue) and the slot with the current wireless card (red), but on both I got the same error.

What is your bios version? I´m planning to buy this card:

And I´m not sure this will work either.

Also, I found there is a wwandos.exe utility (the one you gave me and I used, it uses PID DIV numbers) and a wlandos.exe (that uses VEN DEV numbers). Would wlandos serve me better?

No, if you read the details on the wlandos it doesn't work on the newer laptops (8770w for example) because the wlan isn't whitelisted

You won‘t make a false step with this one.
Just go ahead and buy it, it will work.
    My bios is F.71.
But actually I highly suggest you to buy this one:

Thank you. I'll buy the card and update on it. But after some research, I gotta ask, why is the wifi/bluetooth card I bought a WWan card? I thought wwan was for cellular connections like 3g or lte, and wlan was for wifi. Why is my card detected as WWAN or why is it WWAN?

Also, apparently in order to use the tool wwandos.exe, the card has to be based on the usb protocol, not on the pci protocol, that's why my card has VEN DEV IDs and not PID VID IDs.

Here, most likely, the adapter is at the level of the wi-fi board (or whatever you put there) with pci to USB. This can be found. I'm just guessing.

Hi everyone, what should I do when installing a Quadro M3000M on 8770w (coming from a K3000M) ? The seller says it is compatible with Dell and HP so I think I should be fine but I don't know if I need to modify drivers or flash a different Bios... I started a new thread btw should I remove it ?

This is probably the appropriate place for it, I'd say delete the new thread. As long as you have the appropriate cooler, just make sure the card isn't an hp part. I'd ask the seller for that info. As far as I know, the 8770w only supports k series and a few amd cards, so if it were an hp part your have to bios flash it with another non hp laptop or a desktop with an mxm to pcie adapter

I have the stock cooler. Given the TDP is the same as my current card I was thinking it would be okay, maybe I am wrong.
I think it is an HP part the seller isn't very responsive but the picture of the back of the card clearly shows "HP spare..." safe to assume it's HP.

I don't have the kind of adapter you are referring to. I didn't know the 8770w only natively supported K and P series.
I have found a modified bios specifically for M3000M on 8770w on this thread or a similar one. Is it safe for me to flash it using a bootable USB with DOS ?

No problem, Im pretty sure I'm wrong on the p series, as I'm on a thread for that as well and they're having to do work arounds and such for the dream color screen to work right, but the K series quartos definitely, they're the default nvidia card. Looking at your previous response I realize you said you're coming from the k3000m, which is what I and, so you should be good, the nvidia default systems come with a beefier and longer cooler to cover the whole card as the amd cards for it are only half length cards. The adapter I referred to is this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-PCI-E-...-/251481862248?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286 they aren't terribly expensive but youd have to get a heatsink as well. As for the bios mod, the only way you could flash it is if you had that adapter or a different laptop that could use the card. In most mxm laptops, it wouldn't be so difficult, but hp has disabled the integrated graphics permanently in bios so thats why a different computer is needed. If you can get them to at least tell you what variant bios is on the card it may still work. I went to a 980m amd got very lucky, it was hp branded and worked, however gpuz told me it was an hp part number with a different bios

I don't have any other laptop that would fit it unfortunately, but I just stumbled onto a review of the same card on aliExpress likely from the same seller (same price, same description and pictures...) saying it works perfectly on 8770w. If this card is as compatible as the K series, what modding should I do ?
I guess if the guy had to use another laptop to flash the bios I'm pretty screwed

If they've got returns, best you could do is order it, try it, and if it works, no modding needed, just find your drivers. It doesn't work? Send it back, as long as you can.

You'll have to replace them, but since the card isn't natively supported, you can't just use the installer. It's still a fairly easy method though, just run the installer so they unpack/download, and after its done doing that part, it'll want to install. If you try, it will eventually tell you that your system isn't compatible or no compatible card is detected. This fine, and normal. Before you close the installer, navigate to where the drivers actually downloaded to and make a copy of the whole folder, put it somewhere you can get to it easily. Youll need to go to your hardware manager and install the driver through the "have disk" method, just navigate into the folder that you copied previously, and look for nvbli.inf or nvhmi.inf, I believe that it should be nvbli though as I recall nvhmi is for gtx cards in gaming mode. If I'm wrong, try the other. If that doesn't work, all you can do is research more into the driver side. As a note, many websites will talk about having to mod the drivers! However, this is a rabbit hole, and I ended up not even having to do that for my last two updates (updates still won't auto install, you'll have to do it the same way every time)

Great ! Indeed a lot of websites indicate you have to edit nvbli inf. I'm glad it's not needed. Do I need to delete the older driver (K3000M) ? In case it doesn't work and i am forced to go back to it

Doing this will overwrite it, however since the k3000m is supported, reinstalling is much simpler, just uninstall the driver from the device manager and reinstall the drivers from nvidia normally, unless your laptop automatically detects it and does it on its own

Has anyone been successful in overclocking the display through CRU or any other tool ? It says Ivy bridge processors aren't supported and I am curious to know why and if it can be bypassed.

CRU isa tool for display overclocking only.
There is no chance for O/C the CPU in 8770W
It is locked on bios level. No way to bypass it.

    Hello!
I saw on a Chinese forum where an RX 480 video card was installed in the 8770W laptop (it is possible that it was a WX 7100 or something like that). I wonder if it was a video card taken from a Dell 7710/7720? Or what is that special version of RX 480 - which was released in MXM form factor for miners, because in 2017-2018 I remember the news about this card, and it was intended for mining. Is it even possible? WX 4150 is sure to start with vBIOS from HP, but I would like something more powerful)))
Namely AMD, because I had a FirePro M4000 and I will say, under Windows 10 there were no problems with the DC2 display (the video card itself was not able to at 10 bpc (or the software was not ready), but I saw honest 8 bpc (in the graphics control panel AMD had only 8 bpc, that's right), where on nVidia 8 bpc looks like 6 bpc (nVidia's disgusting software in this regard has not been fixed for many years.) The second problem is that the DC2 screen flickers after flashing the EDID of the DC2 display (via Deltacast E- EDID changed Interface: Undefiend to Interface: DisplayPort), this needed to be done so that I could switch from the disgusting 8 bpc to 10 bpc work where everything looked like it should. Before this problem manifested itself every day, but now I do not see it, as if the matrix is adjusting to the new regime. but i'm worried about this issue anyway.

for the sake of experiments, I'm ready to do anything)))
    thanks.

Finally received and successfully installed the M3000M. Incredible value. Has anyone noticed the display minimum backlight is a lot higher than on their stock card ? I am getting this issue and can't seem to find any information about it online.

Hello. When you made a mod for flashing the EDID panel, then after it you did not have a "strobe" effect on the screen? I have this phenomenon, before the EDID flashing, everything was fine with me .... It most often occurs in gray colors ...
could it be the interference? I have DC 2 and there the decoder board is isolated from interference, so I don't know what the problem might be. Also, if I try to remove the panel to the side, then I have to wait until the "stroboscope" effect appears, because it appears spontaneously ...

Hey again, I noticed the only software that recognised my fan was Notebook FanControl, and I can't seem to find anything to monitor its RPM. I plan on upgrading from the stock 13 blades to a 17 blades found on eBay (here: https://www.ebay.fr/itm/303107221429) and I would like to compare their RPM and (of course) temperature. Do you know if it is worth the upgrade ? If not, what are the better alternatives ? I saw mirage_bg added a whole new a fan and heatsink but I am already using the DVD slot.

No, the original fan from 8770W is better.

Oh ok, thank you. It's a bit weird though because M3000M goes up to 87°C, I'm not sure what's wrong with the cooling system.

    It‘s not the fan..
Either is misplacement/wrong thickness of the thermal pads or bad thermal compound....
Photo of your gpu with the current thermal pads on it would help me figure it out
